Exhibition
This is George Plionis’s first exhibition since relocating from Sydney, Australia, to New York City. Interrogating ideas of metamorphosis, death and rebirth, and focusing on the materiality of objects, this work marks a departure for Plionis in not limiting itself to metalwork developed on the bench. Rather, non-precious materials are integrated with jewelry techniques. The fragility of these works, through their materials, questions the expectation of longevity placed on jewelry. In this exhibition he makes explicit connections within his community, and acknowledges craft as the heart of his practice: ”I make, therefore I am!”

A heartfelt thank you to all my collaborating heroes.
Mariano Garcia and Ellen SchiavonePande-Rolfsen of ‘I Love Shoot’ present the work in a context that is not always obvious, their images create new conversations for all of us. Similarly, Zoë Sadokierski has brought another dimension through her work on the catalogue. The collaboration with Andrew Robinson through his ceramics was the perfect medium to explore the concept of fragility and masculinity, and discussion of ‘what to do together’ with husband Timo Rissanen went on for several months in conversation snippets and drawings on napkins, prior to executing the final piece.
